Connecting Our Community

Our Mission

Downtown Mechanicsburg Partnership is an all volunteer run 501(c)3 organization whose mission is to foster community and business development through events and the improvement of the downtown.

Our Vision

We envision a community where we all can come together to enjoy the space we call home. Through continued efforts to improve and sustain our community we are making this vision a reality for everyone in Mechanicsburg.

How We Do It

We’re able to bring you all of these resources and events through the partnership of donors, business owners, and our dedicated board members, who all come together to create initiatives to revitalize our community. Thanks to the generous support of our volunteers and donors, we’re able to turn ideas into action and ensure every resident benefits from our collective efforts.

You can help, too! Reach out today if you’d like to volunteer, inquire about board membership, or share your ideas with our organization. Everyone has a voice and can make an impact through our collective efforts!

Defining Mechanicsburg

Before settling on the name Mechanicsburg (incorporated in 1828), the town was known by four different names: Drytown (for its seasonal water scarcity), Staufferstown (after Henry Stauffer), Pinchgut (a German-derived name used humorously), and Creekville during colonial times.

The name Mechanicsburg comes from its early role as a place where wagon mechanics, craftsmen who built and repaired wagons for pioneers whose vehicles were damaged during river crossings or rough terrain.

more than just a city

A Place of History & Connection

Historic Architecture & District

Mechanicsburg’s downtown, especially the Commercial Historic District, has many contributing buildings (around 90+) that date back to the 19th century, featuring Georgian and Late Victorian architectural styles.

Jubilee Day

Since 1923, the Mechanicsburg Chamber of Commerce has hosted Jubilee Day (originally Farmers & Merchants Jubilee Day). It’s now Pennsylvania’s largest one-day street fair. Main and Market Streets are closed off while vendors, food, and entertainment take over the town.

The Oldest Building & A Moving Landmark

Built in 1801, the Frankenberger Tavern is considered the oldest known building in Mechanicsburg. In 1984, to preserve it from demolition, the structure was relocated about 50 feet from its original spot. Many of its original features, including the doors, staircase, and wavy glass panes, remain intact today.
